Applications that our kids picked
We know, that we are a bit biased by writing about Apple gadgets and applications working on their system most of the times. But being their users we are bound to do that:). Realizing this fact however, we will try to look for the information weather the applications that our kids picked out, are available for Android system as well.
1. Angry Birds Rio HD
This application will definitely not come as a surprise. We are sure that most of your children already know it, and really enjoy playing it. Angry Birds has become a phenomenon unto itself due to the ease of its accessibility and addicting game play that will keep your puzzle skills getting better and better. If there’s a must-have game on this list, it is this one! A free version of the original is a great place to start, but you’ll soon move on to the premium version, or you can go just straight to Rio :-).
Mission of the game: The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole the Birds’ eggs. Use the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds to lay waste to the pigs’ fortified castles. Good luck with that!

2. Angry Birds Space HD
Next to the basic Angry Birds Rio, you can find many different versions of Angry Birds. Angry Birds Star Wars, Angry Birds Seasons or Angry Birds Space…. Our kids picked the last one to be the next best pick of their own. NASA and Rovio teamed up on the latest version of this wildly popular game. In this one, the piggies have hijacked the Mars rover Curiosity, and the birds need to come to its rescue. The app is educational too: kids can explore NASA vehicles and read about Mars exploration and NASA missions.
Mission of the game: After a giant claw kidnaps Birds’ eggs, the Angry Birds chase it into a wormhole and find themselves floating in a strange new galaxy – surrounded by space pigs! Luckily the Angry Birds have super powers of their own. The full version of the game is free to get from the Apple store, while Android version of the game can be downloaded from the Google Play also for free.
3. Tiny Diggers
Tiny Diggers is an exciting, educational truck game for preschoolers, such as Thelma’s son, aged 2-5. It puts your child in the seat of popular construction trucks. Drive an excavator while mastering numbers, a dumptruck while learning colours, and a bulldozer to discover basic shapes. Each truck’s dashboard has fun and interactive movable parts, including a horn and a CB Radio. If your child wants a break they can always get their hands dirty in Free Play Mode!
Mission of the game: Your children get 3 different trucks to control through 3 different games that teach them about numbers, colors and shapes.
They will be able to drive an excavator and dig anywhere, then dump dirt on the number shown above the truck to progress. By driving a dump truck and dumping dirt on the color shown above the truck the game will progress. The game will also progress by driving a bulldozer and pushing dirt to the shape shown above the truck. Your kids will definitely get crazy over this app, so be careful with giving them the permission to play. You do not want to do that just some minutes before serving food or going out :-).
The game will costs you 1,79 eur if you will be playing it on your Apple device, while you can get it for free from the Google play Android shop.
4. Cut the Rope HD
Om Nom loves his candy, but he needs a little help getting it. Cut the Rope is a physics puzzle game where you use ropes to move the piece of candy by having it swing across the screen and fall into Om Nom’s mouth. Fortunately, it’s not as simple as it sounds, forcing you to think about how to get past the various obstacles standing between Om Nom and his candy. Cut the Rope will invariably be compared with Angry Birds, but while Angry Birds is about directing those birds in their mission, Cut the Rope is about candy. So, it is no wonder it’s one of the top puzzle games on the iPad, iPhone, other tablets and phones :-).
Mission of the game: You’ll need to figure out when to cut the swinging rope while navigating through challenging levels using tools like air gushers and bubbles and avoiding spiders and electric fields. It is a simple game to learn and play, but difficult to master as the challenge increases as you progress. Our kids are much better players than we are, which of course is perfectly in line with the amount of practice they spent playing it :-).
The game is free to get from the Apple store. Free Android version is available as well.
5. Where’s My Water?
Where’s my water is the hit app that everyone is playing. At least this is what our kids tell us :-).
Swampy the Alligator lives in the sewers under the city. He is a little different from the other alligators — he’s curious, friendly, and loves taking a shower after a hard day at work. The other alligators have damaged his plumbing and disrupted the water flow. Our kids need to help Swampy by guiding water to his shower! The game is a challenging physics-based puzzler complete with vibrant graphics, intuitive controls, and a sensational soundtrack. To be successful, our kids need to be clever and keep an eye out for algae, toxic ooze, triggers, and traps.
Mission of the game: The fun is just beginning. Swampy’s pipes are broken and it is up to us to get the water flowing again through 10 themed chapters, each with 20 challenging levels. The story of Swampy unfolds as we play. Swampy’s cute, he’s funny, he just wants to take a shower with his beloved rubber ducky. Cranky is the toughest alligator around and he has worked up an appetite from sabotaging Swampy’s water supply. Test your puzzle solving skills with this game!

6. Toca Hair Salon
This cute application is quite new for our children, so it is pretty popular at the moment. Playing it our kids run their own Toca Hair Salon! They cut, color, comb, shave and blow-dry lifelike hair on six different cute characters. Using their fingers, they can make just about any hairstyle they want! They are saving their creations by taking snapshots like crazy, so that our tablets are full of funny looking characters!
Mission of the game: Be a hair stylist for a day! Choose a customer to cut, style and color any way you want. Each characters makes funny faces and sounds while being styled. It’s like cutting real hair – but without the cleaning up afterwards. Dissatisfied customers don’t have to worry about leaving the salon with a bad haircut – with the magic potion G.R.O. you can grow it all back and start over
The application is available at the Apple store for 1,79 eur. We could not find the same application for the Android system this time.
7. Stack the Countries
Stack the Countries makes learning about the world fun! Louises’ children (grade-schoolers) really enjoy watching the countries actually come to life in this colorful and dynamic game! As they learn country capitals, landmarks, geographic locations and more, they can actually touch, move and drop the animated countries anywhere on the screen. They can build a stack of countries that reaches the checkered line to win each level.
Mission of the game: You earn a random country for every successfully completed level. All of your countries appear on your own personalized maps of the continents. Try to collect all 193! As you earn more countries, you begin to unlock the free bonus games: Map It! and Pile Up! Three games in one!
You can also choose to focus on just one specific continent or play the whole world. You can also select which types of questions are asked.
Stack the Countries provides 193 country flash cards and colorful interactive maps of the continents. Use them to brush up on your world geography before you play or as a handy reference tool.
This really educational game costs 0,73 eur at the Apple store and 1,46 eur at Google Play Android shop.
8. Harbour Master HD
One of the best selling games Harbor Master is a game that can be played by entire family. The player is the Harbor Master in a busy harbor who directs boats into the docks, watches them unload their cargo, and directs them off the screen. But must be very careful not to let boats crash!
Harbor Master HD gives you one beautiful free level called Treasure Island. With six docks and two cargo types, the game gets hectic very fast. For even more fun with your iPad, try playing the game with another player!??If you need more harbors to master, there are 4 additional maps available for download from inside the app, each with its own unique twist.
Mission of the game: directing boats into the docks, watching them unload their cargo, and directing them off the screen as soon as possible.

Thelma’s friend told Thelma about this application quite some time ago. She was explaining to Thelma how addictive this game was. It was true! Thelma had a long period of mastering her harbor every evening before going to sleep :-).
The application is available at the Apple store for 0,73 eur. We could not find the same application for the Android system. According to the description Harbor Capitan could be a similar app that can be played on Android devices.
